The Leopards finished top of Group C in impressive fashion and made the headlines consigning a highly favoured Ivory Coast to an early exit.
Congo sandwiched a draw against defending champions Ivory Coast and registered wins over Morocco and Togo, and will fancy their chances to spring another surprise against Ghana. The Black Stars on their part, probably due to their experience at this stage, earned two early wins in the group, and lost to Egypt in the final tie to qualify at second place.
Congo averaged two goals per game during the group stage, and will be looking to find the goals against strong favourites Ghana. This is a tough one for Congo, going by their opposition's form and head to head to records.
Ghana will be without captain Asamoah Gyan, but that shouldn't be a really big miss considering the terrific form of the likes of Ayew brothers and Christian Atsu. Avram Grant’s men know how to grind results; they did that perfectly against an industrious Uganda, and will look to triumph over Confo in this one.
This will be the 14th meeting between these two sides, and Congo will not want to have a second look at previous results. Ghana has won 7 of these, and is yet to lose to Congo again after that 1-0 loss in the 1998 African Cup of Nations. Ghana came out on top when these two sides met in the 2014 AFCON, a fete they will seek to achieve again here.
There is certainly no semi final berth for Congo this time round, as giants Ghana should shine on the night, and progress.
